The Champion’s Table is Coming!
Oct 3, 2016
It's been talked about at the store for months, now it's time to begin - the Flat Land Games Warhammer 40k Champion table is about to begin!
To get it kicked off, we're having a Warhammer 40k tournament on Saturday, October 22nd. Entry to this one is pretty simple - buy $20+ in GW product between now and including the tournament day, show us your receipt, and you get to play. We are limiting the tournament to 20 players. 1500 points, with army composition rules falling under the Champion's Table Rules as described coming up. Unlike Table games, however, we are not requiring painting for the tournament
Please note - all of this is subject to change based on event feedback.
Here's how the table works - players are seeded into positions 1st through 10th, stacked up pyramid style. The goal is to fight upward, claim the #1 spot, and defend your position as top of the table 3 times. Defend three times, you get the FLGS Champion's Table Championship Belt.
After the seeding tournament, players will be placed in spots 1-10, tiered similar to a pyramid. Anyone not on the table can still participate; they will have to challenge players on the bottom tier to get themselves onto the table.
- Tier 1 - 1st seed, the Aspiring Champion
- Tier 2 - 2nd and 3rd seeds, the Conspiring Challengers
- Tier 3 - 4th, 5th, and 6th seeds, the Up and Comers
- Tier 4 - 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th seeds, the Bottom Dwellers
- Not on the table - the Unwashed Masses
Players on the Table are locked into the army that earned them their Table spot - if you finish 4th in the tournament with your Tau Empire army, you're playing Tau Empire on the Table until you lose a game. If you challenge onto the Table with your White Scars, you play White Scars until knocked back down.
The way you make it to the top is very simple - challenge people in the tier above you and win. If a challenger wins, they take the loser's spot, with the loser sliding to 10th place on the Table. If a challenger loses, they slide to the 10th spot on the Table. In the rare event of a tie, the challenger is the declared loser.
For players not on the table, they have to challenge someone in 7th to 10th place. If the off-table challenger wins, they are now on the table, with the defeated being knocked off the table. If the off-table challenger loses, there is no change to the table.
Whenever a player is knocked down to the 10th seed or knocked off the table, they may change their army.
Each month, a new mission will be selected by the FLGS Manager. That mission is what all Champion's Table games will be for that month.
In addition, the month is divided into two challenge periods. In each half of the month, half of the table is eligible to be challenged. Each player (outside the #1 seed) can only be challenged by 1 other player each challenge period, on a first come, first serve basis. The #1 seed can be challenged by both the #2 and #3 seed in the same challenge period.
Tier 1 and 3 can be challenged on the 1st through the 15th of each month. Challenges must be issued in the 5 days prior to the 1st of the month.
Tier 2 and Tier 4 can be challenged on the 16th through the end of the month. Challenges must be issued during the 11th through the 15th.
Every player on the table must leave contact information with FLGS so that they can be notified of their challenge. Players are expected to work out an appropriate challenge date and time to play their game at FLGS. In the event that a time cannot be worked out, the FLGS manager will evaluate efforts made to schedule the game and declare a winner, or possibly nullify the challenge. This is at the sole discretion of the FLGS manager.
Army Composition -
Total points for each game depends on the tier, as follows
- Challenges into Tier 1 are 2000 points
- Challenges into Tier 2 are 1750 points
- Challenges into Tier 3 are 1500 points
- Challenges into Tier 4 are 1250 points
No Unbound Units
No Forgeworld-exclusive units
Lords of War are permitted at 1750 or higher games
No Allies with two exceptions
- Imperial Knights and Renegade Knights can be used by both sides in a Tier 1 challenge if Imperial Knights or Renegade Knights could normally be allied to their army as a Battle Brother.
- Codex: Assassins can be used by any army permitted to ally with that book as a Battle Brother
Tactical Supremacy Objective cards cannot be used.
Skies of Death will not be in effect
When challenging onto the table, or when seeded by a tournament, players are locked into their army. They can use any and all material specific to that army as long as it fits the criteria above. You are required to use your codex's objective card replacements.
In the case of Space Marines, a chapter must be declared at the time of entry. For example, if you enter the table as a Black Templar player, you cannot later take units or formations restricted to White Scars, nor may you change your Chapter Tactics away from Black Templar.
A player is REQUIRED to have, on hand, all original GW material pertaining to what they use; photo copies are not acceptable. If using one of Games Workshop's electronic books, it is the using player's responsibility to allow their opponent full access to the electronic material. Please note - .pdf or other electronic formats of codexes or other material are NOT acceptable substitutes.
Armies are classified as the following:
